After shopping and getting to know the market, we will go to the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia, to learn about the local history and traditions which have been preserved here for hundreds of years. Speaking about traditions- together (it always tastes better if you have put your effort into it) we will prepare traditional meal in traditional way from the products we have bought in the market by using smudge and old-time style cooking tools.
Have you ever tasted Latvia’s national dish – Gray peas with bacon? Or maybe you've heard something about Latvian braised cabbage with pork. You have a chance to try it now. At first we will visit one of the biggest markets in eastern Europe- Riga Central Market. Construction was started in the June, 1924, but finished in the fall of 1930. In 1924 large-scale works started but the plans did not fit in appropriated funds. The council couldn’t find funds after discussions and construction was stopped in 1926 and resumed just in two years. You can get closer to Latvian culture and traditions in the Central Market. Merchants will offer typical and unique products here – you will met food used here for a long time as well as new flavors of Latvia.
At the end of the day we will have a meal prepared together from products bought in the market and everyone will take a part in the cooking process because it always tastes better if you have put your effort into it.
